A squad builder with an arcade identity

FIFA Rivals puts the attraction of collecting football stars alongside quick competitive matches. Developed by Mythical Games, it is a mobile football game with a blockchain connection through its digital player economy. Its strongest proposition is easy to understand: assemble a team you care about, improve the lineup, and take it into competition.

This is an evidence-based review of the documented game as checked on September 20, 2026, not a hands-on play report. The assessment draws on official game announcements and the current store listing. Controls, matchmaking quality and performance have not been independently tested.

What is available now

The official game site presents squad building and live PvP as its central activities. Mythical’s original game announcement identifies the studio, its collaboration with FIFA and the Mythos blockchain connection.

For the current build, the US App Store listing shows version 1.21.2, dated August 28. It is free to download with in-app purchases. That is the iOS version visible during this check, rather than a claim about every platform or territory.

More recent official activity comes from the September 16 Fresh Ink announcement, which gives September 17 as the season’s start. The store also displays a Fresh Ink event. These are useful signs of an actively maintained game, although neither establishes the size of its player population.

The match and collection loop

The documented loop begins with assembling footballers and choosing formations, then using that lineup in matches and pursuing upgrades. The store describes both scenarios built around key attacking decisions and real-time competition. Its Super Mode adds heightened abilities to the arcade formula.

Editorially, that combination offers two reasons to return: trying a different tactical setup and developing a collection. Recognizable footballers can give those choices more personal meaning than an anonymous roster would. The attraction depends on whether a player enjoys roster management alongside the match itself.

There is also a clear limit to what this evidence supports. A feature list does not show whether passing feels responsive, opponents are appropriately matched or a particular formation dominates. Those questions need direct testing before any stronger verdict about competitive quality.

Progression follows the football calendar

The official Stars of the Week introduction describes weekly player releases in packs, a weekend chase event and fragments that contribute toward a monthly player. This creates a progression structure that connects individual sessions to longer collection goals.

Fresh Ink separately identifies chase, bundle and squad reward players. Taken together, the announcements show that acquiring footballers involves several routes, rather than one uniform reward track. They do not establish how quickly an unpaid newcomer can build a competitive team.

Our assessment is that the calendar gives interested football fans a useful reason to check back, but can also make progression feel scheduled. A player who enjoys recurring collection targets may welcome that rhythm; someone who wants occasional matches without monitoring events may find it less appealing.

Where crypto fits, and what remains uncertain

Mythical identifies Mythos as the chain supporting the game’s trading ecosystem. The blockchain connection therefore concerns digital assets associated with the football game, rather than merely a token sharing its name. Collection and competition remain the clearest starting points for understanding the product.

Trading functionality alone is not evidence that a collection will retain value or be easy to sell. This review has not measured marketplace liquidity, reward returns or the relationship between spending and match outcomes. Those unknowns should remain separate from the confirmed existence of the game and its collection systems.

Who it suits

FIFA Rivals is most relevant to mobile football fans who like building squads and following recurring events. Its documented strengths are a recognizable sporting theme, multiple collection goals and an arcade approach that gives it a distinct identity.

The provisional verdict is promising for that audience, with competitive balance and the experience of progressing without purchases still unresolved. Judge the appeal by the football and team-building routine first; the available evidence does not justify treating its digital collection as the main reason to play.
